Travels with a Wheelchair – Copenhagen

Next up on my occasional series of travel posts, I thought I'd do a quick round up of our recent trip to Copenhagen. Mr WCH, a friend and I travelled in December 2019 for a long weekend to visit the Christmas markets and to see Copenhagen all a-twinkle with lights. we found some pieces of [...]

Travels with a Wheelchair – Zurich

With the August Bank Holiday looming and no real holiday taken as such this year so far, we decided to take a quick trip to Zurich in Switzerland for the weekend. Why Zurich?  Well we were using frequent flyer miles and as we booked it two days before travel on one of the busiest weekends [...]

Travels with a Wheelchair – Canada

The husband and I are big fans of travelling and on the bucket list was a trip across by Canada by train.  So after checking with the company as to access, we booked a trip on the famous Rocky Mountaineer and then planned the rest of the trip around the train. We flew to Vancouver [...]

Travels with a Wheelchair – Italy

If you've seen my post on the The Perfect Wheelchair for travellers and the account of our trip to Iceland you will know how we've used the wheelchair to get to us around, not letting my husband's MS get the better of us. This month we had the opportunity to visit a friend in the Tuscany/Umbria borders of Italy. [...]

The Perfect Wheelchair for travellers

(Note - this is not a sponsored post, all views and opinions in this post are those of myself and my husband and based on personal experience).   Once my husband had accepted that having a wheelchair was an enabler, not a sign of weakness for his MS, so many places opened up to us. [...]

My brilliant coach @emily_teamprojectyou would say that a before and after photo doesn’t show you the whole picture. I agree. These before and after photos of my journey this far are a snapshot of moments in my life and don’t show you the ups and downs of my weeks and months and years.
The long morning commute to the accessible office in the garden for @mrwobblelegs. Occasionally there’s traffic. Like the odd snail on the path!
A rare photo of the house today. Actually managed to tidy up the bedroom today and had to take a quick snap 🤣
Welcome to the man-cave. Aka @mrwobblelegs office. You all know he’s a #spacegeek - can you tell at all?
Well, if you ignore the shabby plants and unpainted deck 😁 you will see the new ramp and path which has now given @mrwobblelegs more freedom to get to work in his man cave in the garden.
A quick reel of our trip to Vienna. It’s reasonably accessible, many restaurants had level access or a ramp, the pedestrianised area was lovely and smooth and the metro was accessible (tip - wheelchairs travel in first and last carriage, a small ramp pops out to help). Lifts at the stations. The beautiful #shönbrunnpalace was accessible via lifts with an attendant and carer goes in free. We did the Winter Pass which also gave us Zoo entry and we saw 🐼 up close which was fabulous. We also took the #wienerriesenrad ferris wheel, again there’s one accessible carriage although not fully flat, but the staff are helpful and offered to assist. Discounted rate for wheelchair user and carer. The #spanishridingschool was also accessible although the ramp to get in and out was not brilliant and ripped the netted basket under the wheelchair.
